Sealing Material Temperature Guide

Operating temperature is one of the most important factors when selecting the appropriate sealing material. Operating outside the recommended temperature range can lead to hardening, cracking, loss of elasticity, and premature seal failure.

Indicative Operating Temperature Ranges

MaterialTypical Operating Temperature Range
NBR-30°C to +100°C
HNBR-30°C to +150°C
EPDM-45°C to +150°C
FKM (Viton®)-20°C to +200°C
VMQ (Silicone)-60°C to +200°C
FVMQ-60°C to +200°C
PTFE-200°C to +260°C
PU (Polyurethane)-35°C to +110°C
POM-40°C to +100°C
PEEKUp to +250°C

Important Note

The temperature values shown above are indicative only. The actual performance and temperature resistance of each sealing material depend on several factors, including:

  • The operating medium
  • System pressure
  • Operating speed
  • Service duration
  • The specific material formulation used by each manufacturer

Selecting the appropriate sealing material should not be based solely on operating temperature, but also on the overall operating conditions of the application.
