O-Ring Selection Guide
O-rings are one of the most widely used sealing solutions in industrial, hydraulic, and pneumatic applications. Selecting the right O-ring is essential for equipment reliability and long service life.
Τα 5 βασικά κριτήρια επιλογής
1. Material
Choosing the right elastomer depends on the operating medium, temperature, and application requirements.
| Material | Suitable For |
|---|---|
| NBR | Oils, greases, hydraulic fluids |
| FKM (Viton®) | High temperatures, fuels, chemicals |
| EPDM | Water, steam, brake fluids, coolants |
| VMQ (Silicone) | Food applications, low and high temperatures |
| PTFE | Aggressive chemicals and demanding applications |
2. Dimensions
The inside diameter (ID) and cross-section (CS) must be selected accurately to ensure proper compression.
3. Operating Temperature
Each material has different operating temperature limits. Exceeding these limits can lead to premature wear or seal failure.
4. Operating Pressure
In high-pressure applications, the use of Back-Up Rings may be required.
5. Chemical Compatibility
The material must be compatible with the operating medium, such as oil, water, fuel, chemicals, food products, and more.
Common Mistakes
- Choosing the wrong material
- Incorrect dimensions
- Ignoring the operating temperature
- Using an O-ring without a Back-Up Ring in high-pressure applications
- Incorrect installation or insufficient lubrication
